PRINT TERMINOLOGY
Linocut | A linocut is a relief print produced in a manner similar to a woodcut but that uses linoleum as the surface into which the design is cut and printed from.
Woodblock | A method of relief printing from a block of wood cut along the grain
Wood engraving | A printmaking method distinct from woodcut in that the line is incised into the woodblock, rather than the background being cut away to leave a line in relief
Serigraph | Also known as silk screening and screen printing. A stencil-based printing process in which ink is forced through a fine screen onto the paper beneath. A different screen is used for each color in the print, resulting in a final serigraph with great color density, color saturation and texture.
Digital Print | Prints created with a computer, using highly saturated, pigment-based archival inks on paper, canvas, or vinyl
Proof | Proof is a printing term applied to all individual impressions made before work on a printing plate or block is completed, in order to check progress of the image
