SOREN CHRISTENSEN TO PRESENT NEW WORK BY THOMAS SWANSTON

Selected works by gallery artists in the rear gallery.

NEW ORLEANS, La—Soren Christensen is pleased to present Repeating the Unknown, the 3rd solo gallery presentation of artist Thomas Swanston. The show features new and retrospective paintings on canvas and paper. Paired down palette and simplified composition coupled with the use of precious metal leaf are the hallmarks of Thomas Swanston's Migration series.

Thomas Swanston was born 1956 in Annapolis Md., Naval Hospital. He graduated from Hobart & William Smith Colleges 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts, with studies in London and at the Studio School in New York, New York. Swanston matriculated in 1980 – one of only twelve of the first Parsons Master of Fine Arts Diploma offered. Swanston exhibits regularly in galleries in Boston, Atlanta, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Santa Fe and with art consultants across the country. He has had thirteen solo and forty-six group gallery exhibitions, has been included in eight museum exhibitions and published in over fifty trade and lifestyle magazines. Swanston's work has been placed in public and private collections in the US, Europe, China, Korea, Mexico and the Caribbean.

“The visual and spiritual coalesce in my surroundings, from which I draw much of my inspiration. For the past 25 years I've lived and worked in South Fulton county and have come to know well its history, creeks, and ravines. Seasons change in a profound manner--twice yearly, migrating sandhill cranes rest in the thermal that rises directly overhead. In this mystical setting, my favorite time of the day is sunset, when what you know to be true is evoked but not seen. It is that frame of mind that I capture -- the twilight between observation and imagination.”- Swanston, 2017.

The rear gallery will feature select works by gallery artists, including the continuation of CHROMA (in-part), a three-woman exhibition of photography in participation with PhotoNOLA 2017. Both shows will run from January 1st-30th, with the opening reception on Saturday, January 6th in participation with the First Saturday Gallery Openings in the Arts District of New Orleans.
