Charly Palmer’s ability to see life through a child’s eye is on display in this exhibition of 33 new works featuring children in contemporary and historical settings. Palmer will return for a Closing with a morning activity with a group of local school children then he will spend the afternoon meeting with collectors and their families and talking about the important role art can play in raising children.
Palmer is also an illustrator of two children’s books, There’s A Dragon In My Closet and Mama Africa!: How Miriam Makeba Spread Hope with Her Song by Kathryn Erskine. This book won the 2018 Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Award and the Children’s Africana Book Award and two illustrations and three sketches from the book will be on exhibit. Palmer will be signing books during the Closing.
Stella Jones has been privileged to count Palmer amongst their roster of artists since 2007. His work has been placed in private and public collections, including Atlanta Life Insurance, McDonald’s Corporation, Miller Brewing Company, Coca Cola Company and Vanderbilt University. One of Palmer’s painting’s was auctioned in 2015 as part of “THE ART COLLECTION OF MAYA ANGELOU” by Swann Auction Galleries. Palmer’s work was commissioned for the 1996 Olympics and the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau. In 2016, he was commissioned to create original artwork commemorating Fisk University’s 150th year anniversary; in 2017, he accomplished the same for Howard University. Palmer recently completed a project with the Green Bay Packers featuring portraits of players for the Lambeau Stadium.
