Stella Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition dedicated to the significant contributions of Black women across various fields. These remarkable women have consistently influenced American society, propelling advancements in leadership, STEM, civil rights, and entrepreneurship, while also breaking through systemic barriers and championing social justice movements.
This collaborative exhibition features artists of the African Diaspora, showcasing a wide range of mediums and perspectives that delve into the Black female experience. Highlighting the exhibition are notable pieces such as Delita Martin's diptych, which poignantly examines the relationship between Black women and their hair. Additionally, the "American Woman" series, a collaboration between collagist Cey Adams and painter Charly Palmer, focuses on race and gender relations, and cultural and community issues.
Jerry Lynn contributes a series of aspirational paintings that reflect profound connections to the Southern United States.
Furthermore, Richmond Barthe’s bronze sculpture honoring Mary McLeod Bethune and Elizabeth Catlett’s “Black Flag” serve as powerful representations of women with a strong sense of identity and advocacy. Candace Hunter's “Brown Limbed Girls,” a vibrant collection of collages, captures the joy of living, while artists Woodrow Nash and Francisco Mora celebrate the inherent beauty of the Black woman’s form.
