JERRY LYNN
“Children are Our Future”
Opening: Saturday, May 17, 2025
Exhibition: May 17 through September 30, 2025
Last month, STELLA JONES GALLERY and the city of New Orleans paused to reflect on the impact of Hurricane Katrina, marking 20 years since the tragedy. It appears that the children and young adults of today represent our hopes for a brighter future. Through the lens of Southern painter, JERRY LYNN, we can envision a city once again alive with energy, where the youth are focused on what lies ahead while honoring the lessons of the past.
LYNN's artistic practice is deeply rooted in the rich cultural, historical, and spiritual tapestry of the region. His work is inspired by personal experiences and perspectives anchored in church and Southern traditions, creating an ongoing dialogue that bridges historical reflection with contemporary interpretation.
LYNN’s work has garnered media attention and found homes in several esteemed celebrity collections, including those of Kanye West, Black Enterprise founder Earl Graves, Ralph White from Earth Wind and Fire, singer-songwriter Kem, Alonzo and Tracey Mourning, BET founder Bob Johnson, former NBA player Ulysses ‘Junior’ Bridgeman and director Spike Lee. The collaborative duo has also been featured in various prestigious magazines and publications and has served as the official artists for notable events such as the Essence Music Awards, The Tom Joyner Foundation Cruise, the Kentucky Derby Grand Gala, and the Black Enterprise Golf and Tennis Challenge, among others. Currently, as LYNN embarks on a solo artistic journey, he experiences a newfound sense of creative freedom.
