About the Artist: I am a Baton Rouge native and known for being a romantic realist with a passion for capturing the beauty I see in life. I strive for the truthfulness of nature, her colors, her designs by rendering them freehanded. My still lifes are painted directly from life without the use of photography. Landscapes are started on location and finished in my studio with photos I have taken. Nature is the best teacher and her unbounded beauty can’t be topped. My chosen medium is oil but I love to work in pencil and enjoy gouache as well. I find endless still life composition in my own home and gardens. I am absolutely astounded with Louisiana landscapes, especially the ones that encompass the live oak. I find great inspiration indoors and out.
Drawing the figure from life keep my drawing skills sharp, and sound compositions are attributed to studying the old masters, Vermeer, Corot, Chardin, Constable, Peter Paul Rubens, and William Trost Richards, among others. I have painted for over 38 years and have studied with several contemporary professional artists and also at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art. I also teach oil painting classes and workshops.
