Press Release

With her seemingly effortless brand of “loose realism”, Northshore artist and environmentalist Carol Hallock paints close to her Bayou Lacombe home. Her show opens in August, 2020 and brings the varied moods of Louisiana’s lowlands. From a rare vantage point afforded by often painting from her kayak, she captures the all the subtle nuances of color and light. Her plein-air studies on location have encouraged this artistic vision, (They) have allowed me to paint what I actually SEE not what a camera sees. We do not naturally see all of the detail that a camera does.

With an authentic palette of blues, greens and greys, the fluid brushstrokes create movement and the heavy impasto adds texture. Bayou Bravura indeed! Many of her canvases are large-scaled so the viewer is immersed in a bayou or marsh environment. She has produced books of her work as well as “how to” professionally developed videos entitled The Art of Loose Painting, which are shown on over 110 TV stations across the nation. Her work has won many awards and also graces the cover of magazines and is reviewed in numerous press releases and periodicals. Hallock does commissioned and studio work as well as finding time to teach in the local art community.
